I’ve been a resident of Santa Cruz County for the past 23 years. My husband and I moved to Scotts Valley just after the birth of our first son, and we’ve enjoyed raising two children in this community.
My own childhood was spent mostly in North Carolina, but I moved around a bit as an army brat. After college in South Carolina, I married my high school sweetheart and we moved to the northeast where my husband and I started our professional careers.
My previous positions have always used my organizational and interpersonal skills. I’ve matched employees with employer needs, worked as an office manager and executive assistant, planned meetings, conferences and led customer service teams. I’ve always been able to add value by using my planning and organizational skills. While working for a Silicon Valley company I organized a number of Fortune 500 customer conferences requiring multicultural sensitivities and diplomacy.
Once my sons were born, I became involved in their sphere of activities, serving on school site council, fundraising campaigns and the PTA and working as a room mother, team mother, and Sunday school teacher. Other community volunteerism over the years includes providing meals to the homeless; helping organize and work at a variety of special events for nonprofit organizations; and working as a Mission Assistant during mercy flights where I accompanied pilots to provide comfort and care to patients flying to and from medical appointments far from home.
For the past few of years I’ve often found myself helping others in different ways…taking friends to chemo or radiation, helping an overwhelmed new mother, assisting an elderly acquaintance whose family members live far away with meals and errands after a surgery.
I’ve come to realize that there are many people in these situations…people who need just a little bit of help to help ease a difficult moment, preserve their independence, or assist with life transitions of loss, divorce, and being sandwiched between your own family and caring for your parents. This is how Every Little Bit Helps came about.
Discretion and compassion are two key ingredients I value most in providing "Bits-of-Help". Of course, organizational skills and a sense of humor are both important, too. References available upon request.
Testimonial Tidbits
"Facing weekly chemo treatments Debra provided me with tremendous support and assistance. In using Debra's service, I was able to concentrate on getting through my weekly treatments. Her prompt transportation eliminated the stress of driving to medical appointments and dealing with parking. I also relied on Debra for regular outings between treatments. This especially was a worthwhile service to keep my spirit lifted with the onset of chemo-related fatigue and melancholy. Having a change of scenery during this low energy period was a true help in getting me through treatment. Debra's personal service and commitment was an important component in getting me back on track again." S.W., Scotts Valley, CA.
"ELBH been a godsend as a Mission Assistant during Angel Flight missions that fly children throughout Northern California. Their compassion and attention to detail with the patients and passengers is exemplary. ELBH's cheerful outlook and willingness to assist the volunteer pilots makes the flight planning and execution so much easier." Angel Flight Pilot, Watsonville Airport, CA.

Her warm personality and genuine interest in people make everyone around her feel special and comfortable. She shares her exquisite taste, sense of style, and creativity unselfishly. She is willing to do whatever needs to be done from arranging a beautiful centerpiece to taking out the garbage. Whatever she does is done with excellence!" K.E., San Jose, CA
